Past methods required patients to endure a messy impression and wear a temporary crown or other restoration for several days before they returned to the office for their permanent crown. With CEREC, the process is streamlined for optimal patient satisfaction.

Same Day/Single Visit Dental Crowns

At Gwinnett Family Dental Center, we utilize the advanced CEREC system to custom fabricate your crown, bridge or other restoration right here in our office. We begin by taking a painless optical impression using the CAD/CAM technology. Next, the computer design software is able to create a highly precise three-dimensional image of your new restoration. The CEREC machine then carries out the manufacturing process by conveniently milling the crown right away.

Before you leave our office, we will carefully bond the crown or bridge to your teeth so that you have a seamless and durable restoration to walk away with. There’s no need for messy impressions, temporary crowns or multiple trips to our office. In a single appointment, you can take advantage of life-changing results in cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

The CEREC® Process

CEREC® uses CAD-CAM technology to design and mill custom restorations during one visit to the dentist. So how does this process work?

Exam and Preparation
Before you get started, your dentist will determine if CEREC® is right for you. Depending on how much healthy tooth structure you have remaining, it may be a simple filling or you may need a crown. After reviewing your options, the dentist will begin the process by administering anesthetic and preparing your tooth for restoration by removing decay and weakened tooth tissue.
Optical Impression
In order to make the desired restoration, a 3-dimensional image of the tooth that needs to be restored must be created from a digital camera scan of the tooth. This three-dimensional image will be used to create the restoration without the need to take a messy impression. This means no horrible tasting impression material for you to gag on. The computer and CEREC® 3D software then converts the digital image into a three-dimensional virtual model of the prepared tooth.
Milling Unit
This device is used to used to create the custom restoration needed for the tooth. Based on the original color of your tooth, the dentist is able to select the correct colored ceramic block and in a few minutes, the milling device is able to create the restoration needed.
Placing the Restoration
After the restoration is made, it is ready to be tried on to ensure that you get proper fit and bite. When it is ready, the restoration is polished and bonded into place by your dentist. Therefore, no temporary restoration is needed and no return trip is necessary, saving you time and money.

  • The whole process is amazing! You don't sit in the waiting room for very long until somebody comes in to get you. And to my surprise The same lady that clean to my teeth the last time cleaned my teeth this time and she actually remembered me! She was super sweet and very gentle and was able to give me great feedback on what I need to do for the health of my teeth. When the dentist came in he also was very gentle and very thorough looking at my teeth and letting me know the best products to use on my teeth as far as tooth paste and mouthwash. Everything always seems very organized to the time you check in until the time you leave. Is it weird that I can actually say I kind of enjoyed my experience at the dentist? Lol

First, Dr. Jon - oh if every Dr. could be like this man the medical world would be absolutely a joy to go to see a Dr.! I am so happy to see him and talk with him with his kind, caring way. Talks and his help for so much over these many years- PRICELESS! Can I say I love my friend? Well, i do! I see Carime and Lauren and they have to figure it out who's turn it is and I told them why don't you just do it this way - one on left and one on the right! They thought it was great! My friends in the office staff you are wonderful, caring people too and greet me with a smile and a great HELLO and leaving it's a BYE, have a great day!   • Ok 2-9-18 I had all front teeth removed, temporary was put in the same day . Dr Green is gentle and patient. Office staff and techs are wonderful and compassionate . Easy to make appts.   • Broke a chunk of my back molar off. They were able to fit me in that day. I am super sensitive in the mouth and did not want to come. Dr. Green and her assistant Mirna were wonderful. They explained everything before and during the procedure. No pain!! They did a wonderful job drilling out the old filling, building up my tooth and placing a temporary crown. If I wanted them to stop for any reason, I just raised my finger and they both stopped immediately! Super gentle and patient! They also didn't try to get me to do extra procedures I didn't need or purchase extra stuff. Oh and the front office staff is great too! Super friendly and helpful!

  • Again had my teeth cleaned and more by the creme-de-la creme wonderful hygienist Careme, from the identical last name of the French chef "caremal" - the sweet , there may be some possible puns above. But seriously, she's the best hygienist I've ever had the good fortune to encounter, and I'm rather long of tooth (but don't give my exact age) a long line of such both in NYC and Atlanta. Gentle, cheerful and beyond thorough since it's evident that she's checking for things no other hygienist I've had has ever checked for. One needs a word beyond "superlative" to describe her and her work. I was also fortunate to have my teeth checked by Dr. John Klevansky, He finds the problems without painfully poking around, and it's always a good experience to be with him, and I've had a lot of work done by him.
